About us
Who we are
AcademiaTal is an online chess school with roots in Uruguay and Argentina. It started the way most of these things start: a group of players who had been teaching on their own for years and got tired of the good material always being in another language.
Who teaches
The team is made up of teachers spread across Latin America: people who compete, who train, and who teach every week. This is not a bought-in catalogue or a translated course: each one builds their own around what they genuinely know, which is why no two courses here look alike.
How we teach
Every course starts from one idea and follows it through: the concept first, then the typical position, then the exercises, and finally the games where that idea decides the result. No lists of variations to memorise: what we are after is that you understand why it is played that way, which is the only thing that transfers to a position you have never seen.
What you get
Video lessons that play inside the platform, PDF notes to consult later, and annotated games in PGN that you step through move by move on an interactive board, with an analysis engine if you want to switch it on. There are also live courses with a date and a limited number of places, and private lessons with the teacher you choose.
Which languages
The site is in Spanish, English and Portuguese. The lessons are spoken in Spanish and carry English and Portuguese subtitles: we would rather tell you before you buy than after.
